Welcome to #OutPlantTheOutbreak + How to get your seeds
Does the virus outbreak have you feeling cooped-up? Or providing you with the desire to enhance your resiliency? Then, 2020 may be a year to start a garden, grow something new or engage your bored kids in a little Nature Deficit Busting. I am using Little Free type cabinets in the Midway and Frogtown neighborhood in St Paul, MN to distribute seeds to my neighbors this spring. And, as a companion, I’ll use this website to post how-to information as the cabinets gets stocked with different seeds, and share the posts on different social media platforms.
Gardening styles and techniques vary as much as the plants themselves. The tips and timing suggested here are for a Twin Cities Zone 4b urban climate. I’ll focus on methods that are accessible and have lower barriers to supplies and equipment. I’ll share prompts for timing of activities and resources that are nearby. I hope to offer encouragement to try something new, and reminders that every gardening act is an experiment! -often said by Diane Dodge, one of St Paul’s community gardening matriarchs. Here is video on indoor seed starting to inspire experimentation in the time of social distancing.
